Meet the Mom (and family) behind the Blog

Talofa and Aloha!  My name is Matilda Togiai and I am currently residing in Hawai'i, on the island of Oahu.  I was born and raised in American Samoa, the tiny island territory of the US from which some of the greats hail...maybe you recognize Troy Polamalu or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, although The Rock is not officially from my neck of the woods but he is Samoan, which I am too!

My blog was born out of my social life on Facebook, where a lot of my FB friends suggested that I start a blog to memorialize a lot of what I was posting. I have been an avid FB user since 2010 and I have created such great and wonderful relationships with people that I would otherwise not see or talk to due to distance or the daily routine of life.  My blog does not focus in on one thing, but rather has excerpts and snippets from my life as a mom, wife, student, and working full time to provide for my family.  So the range of topics is huuuugggeee..hehe.

I love to read, write, bake, cook, and spend time with my children.  One of my all time favorite pastimes is watching TV shows/series with my  husband!  Because we don't really have time for date nights, or time for much of anything else these days, my husband and I have watched all seasons of Lost, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Greys Anatomy, Prison Break, and a lot of others that will just take too much time to name.   But you get the idea :-).  So if ever you need a good TV series to watch, just hit me up!  My recommendations will not disappoint..I promise!

I love Food Network!!  Oh and Bravo TV, specifically the Housewives of Atlanta...yeah Nene is my girl so shout out to she who runs Atlanta...go Nene!  I also have a tiny obsession with the "Alaskan Bush People"!  I just love Brown town, and low key want to move there :-).  When I grow up I want to be just like Ree Drummond and be a Pioneer Woman with a farm and animals and that beautiful kitchen(s) of hers!  Ooh lala!

Some of my favorite TV chefs are Ina Garten, Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, and Trisha Yearwood!  I never knew she could cook, but girl can COOK!  I just love me some Trisha :-).  Have you seen her show about her French Coconut Pie?  OMG...I will make that one day and blog about it...only after I eat it all! hehe.

I was raised in a very large, loving, close-knit family that value God and being together above all else.  Those are the principles I try to instill in my own family now. #TogetherIsABeautifulPlaceToBe is our motto and we strive to live by that everyday.

In my blog you will find tips on cooking, getting dinner on the table in as little time as possible, how to juggle or at least cope with the juggling of all that is involved in being multiple things to multiple people, especially the little people that rule my life now hehe.  You will also read about our monthly family weekends with my siblings that I am fortunate to have here in Hawai'i.  We do all kinds of themed get togethers, from Mexican, to Samoan food, to Pizza Nights, and our favorite tradition, our Game of Thrones premiere and finale feasts!

You might find inspiration and motivation through some of my childhood memories. Or just get a good laugh :-). You will also get a taste of my #RootsFood (that I try really hard to replicate), food that I grew up eating that brings such fond memories of happiness and joy growing up in Samoa.

I love God, love my kids and husband, love my family, oh and I absolutely love food!  And just like I have created lasting friendships on Facebook, I hope to create the same family here with my blog :-).

Happy reading, Happy Eating, Happy Life to you all!  Welcome to this Mom's Life :-).
